October Monthly Dev Update

In October I published:

  • 0 GameMaker Assets
  • 6 YouTube videos

For the month I received $3.99, a very low amount! Life got very busy this month, but I really have no excuses. Let’s take a look at what went down.

Itch.io

I sold a single asset in October. Not my best work.

You can see early October was far more active for views, then dropped off and stayed low pretty quickly after a few days. YouTube continued to drive most of the traffic, followed by Twitter, google, and a search for “pixel art”, which was probably brought on by early month jams and contests.

Twitter

I Tweeted less than I did last month, but saw more follows that I previously had. I even had less engagement with my posts, but it seems a few folks were interested in following regardless. Twitter’s in a weird spot right now with management, but we’ll see if I continue to see growth here.

YouTube

Okay, so I kind of cheated here. I’ve been putting up short-form content with YouTube shorts, and even then only half were gamedev related. I wanted to do something fun so I recorded several videos of me opening up a pack of Pokemon cards and putting them up once a week. I just want something regular to go up, even if it’s fun and/or slightly irrelevant.

I guess at least one person doesn’t like Pokemon. Oh well!

November’s Strategy

I’d like to continue to focus on YouTube with tight, polished videos with tips and tricks for using GameMaker. I’d like to build a brand with a similar aesthetic across all points of social media.

My goals for November will be:

  • Four new YouTube videos (GAME DEV RELATED)
  • 5 new YouTube subscribers

    Milestone Goals

    • Publish a game
    • 1,000 followers on YT
    • 1,000 followers on Twitter
    • $50/month from assets

Spread the word. Share this post!
