January Monthly Dev Update

In January I published:

  • 5 YouTube Videos

For the month I received $7.99. I didn’t touch any of my asset storefronts. I was far more focused on something else this month, and I can’t wait to talk about it!

Itch.io

I sold three assets on Itch without lifting a finger. Thanks for the lunch!

My views are getting more consistent, though. I wonder if it’s because of my increased presence on social media? Maybe they’re coming back to checking out the wares. It’s not exactly translating to sales, so I wonder if there’s a better way to convert. I wonder what everyone is looking for!

Twitter

WOW! I had a goal this month to get 5 new Twitter followers. I ended up with 456 instead! You can see that all of my metrics have exploded here. Early in the month I had a tweet that took off! It was viewed 270K times, was retweeted 356 times, and gained 4,700+ likes. This is a very different kind of exposure that I hadn’t received before. I was incredibly humbled and excited that people took up so much interest in my work!

My followers almost double this month; Achieving my first milestone goal of 1,000 followers on Twitter!

Let’s take a look at the monthly review:

The Top Tweet was the one I mentioned before. It was showcasing how these mushroom platforms look really interactive and responsive as the player moves around on top of them. The reality is that it’s all smoke and mirrors! I think people really liked seeing the reality behind game development… plus it’s a good looking effect!

I was sure to interact with the Tweet as much as I could, replying to comments and conversing with an audience. I love interacting with the community, and this was a great way of showing me the possibilities of the future. I had so much fun!

YouTube

I set a goal to make 1 new YouTube video and get 1 new subscriber.

I ended up publishing 4 long video and 1 short video. The result was 55 new subscribers and… thoughts of the future for YouTube as well.

I’ve been doing a lot of research into YouTube, and I decided that I’d like to pursue it further. In order for it to be sustainable, I’d like to be able to monetize the videos. It’ll allow me to make MORE videos to serve the community and extend the community to a new audience.

To get monetized, I need 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 hours of watch time over the last 365 days. I’ll add these two points to my long-term goals.

February’s Strategy

I kept my goals really simple for January, and that’s for good reason. I saw a little bit of success, and that inspired me to push a little further into my other goals. 2023 is off to a great start, and I don’t want to lose momentum.

I’m thrilled to be able to grow a community and I’ll try to create content that’s deserving as such.

This month’s goals:

  • 4 new YouTube videos
  • 20 new YouTube subscribers
  • 20 new Twitter followers

Milestone Goals

  • Publish a game
    • 5% complete
  • 1,000 followers on YT
  • 4k hours of watch time
  • 2,000 followers on Twitter
  • $50/month from assets
